Hugo Oklahoma

Gateway to Hugo Lake

Hugo is the county seat since 1907 for Choctaw County, Oklahoma. The city has Hugo Lake as a huge outdoor recreational playground area that has 13,250 acres with 110 miles of shoreline. There are several Corps of Engineers lakes and parks in the area. A marina is also available in the Kiamichi Park area of Hugo Lake.

The city is considered to be a prime outdoor activity area -- hunting, fishing, swimming, boating, ATV and dirt bike trail riding and hiking are everywhere. Being part of Kiamichi Country,  you can enjoy the view of green, rolling hills, pastures with cows, horses, and exotic animals.

Hugo Lake is a sportsman's paradise for skiers, speedboat enthusiasts, campers and hunters, but also fishermen find some of the best fishing in the world right there in Hugo's Kiamichi River Valley. A wide variety of fish species can be found including largemouth bass, spotted bass, white bass, crappie, channel & flathead catfish, bluegill, buffalo, carp and drum.

The city was named for Victor Hugo, the French novelist. Also, It is the birthplace of notables such as James Ling, William Childress,  Bill Moyers,  and B. J. Thomas,

Hugo has a nickname of Circus Town, USA because it is the winter headquarters of both the five-ring Carson & Barnes Circus and its sister circus, the Kelly-Miller Bros.
